In what looks like yet another move signaling Google’s warming up to cryptocurrencies, the search mogul has added the popular Bitcoin “B” symbol to its keyboard for iOS devices.

Google Adds Bitcoin “B” Symbol

The search giant Google has added the popular Bitcoin “B” symbol to its keyboard. At the moment, however, it’s only available for users of iOS devices. It’s unclear when and if the symbol will be added to Android keyboards.

In order to access it, the user has to use the Google keyboard and not the default one of Apple. By holding down the dollar symbol, users will see a pop-up of additional symbols of some of the world’s major currencies and Bitcoin.

Google and Bitcoin

Google and Bitcoin have had an on-again and off-again relationship for quite some time. Last year, the search mogul banned cryptocurrency advertising on its platform.

At the time, Scott Spencer, Director of Product Management and Sustainable Ads at Google said:

We don’t have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we’ve seen enough consumer harm or potential for consumer harm that it’s an area that we want to approach with extreme caution.

However, it wasn’t long before it decided to allow it again in the US and Japan. Interested parties, however, need to apply for special certification.
