Fairly unpopular cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia has been hacked. The team confirmed the breach and revealed that the losses have been ‘significant’.
Cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia, which is known for having listed a broad range of altcoins, has gone through a security breach.
The team has officially announced the breach without revealing any further details as of this moment. The losses are ‘significant’.
Yesterday 14th January 2019, the Cryptopia Exchange suffered a security breach which resulted in significant losses. Once identified by staff, the exchange was put into maintenance while we assessed damages.
According to the announcement, the team has already notified the appropriate authorities in the face of Government Agencies such as the NZ Police and High Tech Crimes Unit. They’ve begun joint investigation on the matter.
Cryptocurrency Market Fails to React
Perhaps because of the fact that the exchange doesn’t seem to be particularly popular, the cryptocurrency market in its entirety has failed to react.
This appears to be the first cryptocurrency exchange attack in 2019 and it doesn’t seem to have any effect on the market whatsoever, at the time of writing this.
The cryptocurrency community, however, was quick to pick up the news, with some already questioning the event.
