A cinema in the capital of Brazil’s Santa Catarina state has begun accepting Bitcoin to purchase tickets for the movies. It’s the first cinema in the country to allow this.
Cinema Tickets With Bitcoin
Back in 2015, the popular online portal MovieTickets enabled its users to buy cinema tickets with bitcoin across 985 theaters in the US. The platform used a third-party payment processor.
Now, years later, the sunny town of Florianopolis – the capital and the second largest city of the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil has followed up, becoming the first city in the country to allow users to buy cinema tickets with Bitcoin.
The cinema is called Cine Multi. Users will be able to purchase their tickets using nothing but their card and the Bancryp App which facilitates for the usage of cryptocurrencies for everyday purchases.
Commenting on the move, the owner of the cinema, Fernando Costa, said:
For Cine Multi, which already follows the path of culture, pioneering an innovative market is a huge step forward. Now all the customers besides being in a pleasant environment will also be pioneers to pay a cinema with Bitcoins.
Slowly But Steady Getting There
Brazil is seeing a slow increase in the usage the trading volumes of Bitcoin on LocalBitcoins for the past months.
In the week ending on February 2nd, 2019, the country saw a total of 100 BTC traded on LocalBitcoins, which is more than 100 percent increase compared to the same period in the month of January.
